disaster on the graveyard of ships island

the cataraqui sailed out of liverpool bound for melbourne on the 20th april 1845 but sailing in rain and black skys the ship was doomed as they sailed right into a reef on king island over 440 emigrants drowned and the ship was only a 100 metres from shore this 19 century wreck is the worst maritime disaster to hit australia and over the years the sand and wind has claimed the grave site so those souls lay in one grave site  then just six months later on the north end of king island the convict ship nevara hit the reef drowing some 218 women convicts and on a still night you can here the women yelling out for help but no one came  and that is why the island is know as the grave yard of ships and the ghosts of many  have been seen of these past people wandering the sea shore looking for help on a good news we are at school finishing our business plan for the u.a.e. delegates alls well and will have good news soon this month we support the royal flying doctor service from big fella tours

Hey Big fella, My husband used to go to King Island in the late 70’s with his mate who played in a band at the pub in Currie. He has many happy memories of fishing on the island, and often came home telling me all about the turkeys, the old boiler thats on the western beach from the paddle steamer that sunk there. The house of bottles. The lighthouse. I dont know if you ever heard the tale of a group of guys that came over from melbourne and one rolled a car half an hour after they’d arrived_ put a damper on the fishing trip !
