I think they should get rid of Sunday trading and close shops at 2pm on Saturdays, then maybe people would get back to going out and doing short trips & the tourist thing on weekends and seeing all the great stuff thats out there.
A lot more constructive then going to bogan shopping centres and spending all their time and money chasing unnessary consumer goods.
I agree vivavoce. I worked part-time in retail for many years and our customer count did not increase as we slowly extended our hours over the weekend. We had the same no of customers on Sat from 9 - 12 as we did a year later from 9-1, then from 9-2 and finally between 9 and 5. The only thing that stayed the same was the rush that came about five minutes before closing each time!! People only have so much money to spend and we are kidding ourselves that we need consumer opportunities all day and night for our quality of life. (Of course I must confess to my hypocrisy when I run out to the supermarket at 11.45pm to get eggs to rebake the failed toadstool birthday cake - and to all the b%@#ing and moaning I did in Perth when their trading hours were so much shorter than ours!) Bit of a worry when you find out that people attend aforesaid shopping centres for “entertainment”!!
ahhh the failed birthday cake, I covered up such a disaster with lots & lots of v bright coloured icing, sprinkles & lollies and hoped no one would eat it til they got home
(lived in Adelaide then and no late night trading)
Viv, and Gad, you are indeed most learned.
